Hello I am new to the idea of the fairy lifestyle and was wondering if someone could tell me what it is about. From what I have read, Fairy societies are similar to a hippie lifestyle of art, music, and creative expression. I hope I am not offending anyone by comparing Fairies to Hippies. I am fascinated by the idea behind the lifestyle and would like to learn more. I thank anyone who is reading this for taking the time.

Equality March Attendees?

This Friday, Cetacea and I are headed to Washington, D.C. to participate in the National Equality March. We have been graciously invited by Fritter to spend the weekend at his house. I am very excited about this trip and its possibilities. Plus, we have not been to D.C. since 1993. I am sure there will be new things to see and do...like visit Madeleine Albright's foreign policy costume jewelry exhibit at the Smithsonian.

How many who read tribe.net are going to be marching on Sunday? Just a wonderin.....

Persisting questions on crystal meth fear

I see that the topic of crystal meth persists in this community, and I wonder if questions like the ones below have been brought up before. These comments come in reply to reading the beginning of the recent article "Tweaked: Crystal Meth, Sex, & HIV" in the most recent issue (#35) of "Clamor" Magazine. (www.clamormagazine.org)

Here are my thoughts/questions so far:

First, i wonder if this article could be veiwed as a POSITIVE provocation towards radical excellence! Depending on how much quality input we put into Clamor, the authors of its articles, and/or communities around such provokings.

Secondly, I think of looking for the insights of analysis made of propaganda techniques by the Institute For Propaganda Analysis (while remembering that many 'users' of such have "a good education" and may not be conscious of being tooled by "information" from "reputable" sources). Especially in paragraph 4 on page 16. (1)

Thirdly, I think of yet a new parade of domesticated enemies and how people labeled as "tweakers" are largely inarticulate and unprepared for the "good intentions" of those whom are quite willing to mobilize against the alleged menace, while those who ask that people actually *think through* the situation more critically, are labeled as "possible" 'users' or 'pushers'.

So, the hyped-up climate (of "well educated" domesticates) is to follow the "informative" orders of formal, state-subordinated authority. Such a climate indicates that continual interests of encroachment (and mystification) have picked up their pace. In the context of what is going down in current u.s./european political interests, this situation may not be as moot as one might assume.

On the other hand, are there actual *sources* and *studies* named by the "information" outlets which we may investigate? Why or why not? (sidenote to insert here: this Clamor article is an example of the situation between the use of the word 'propaganda' to explain anarchist ideas and the use of the word 'information' to explain dominating ideas)

Fifthly, the "reputable" method to "stop" the apparently bad situation is not thought through too carefully by those claiming autonomous desires. So we are basically to 'follow orders from on high' and instructed in the methods of "tough love"-styled restriction and blocking of people who once were full members of our community making. And we are to automatically defer to and trust this authority--i.e. professional methods of intervention.

Crucially,
we are not led to realize the value of holding onto any authentic, autonomous, "I'm Okay, You're Okay" style bridges which we may've made previously with the person under suspicion, or actually 'caught' in possession of such substances.

Suddenly, they aren't as fully human as the rest of us.

Suddenly, their behavior is reduced to something that cannot be listened to, and cannot have "rational" input to humanity and our projects. All they can do is subordinate while alleged help is administered. This is the prevailing conception, even tho there is evidence to dispute such (2).

Suddenly, we don't *believe* that there's even a *remote possibility* that the mystified 'drug' could be a tool autonomous radicals utilize in a beneficient way, much less a possible *processing method* of being, seeing, or processing towards mutually beneficial outcomes, much less wisdom which we cannot right now conceive of. No, such fantasy is *completely* beyond the collective imagination, or at least what passes for such.

All this *without evidence*, *without critical thought*; we are led to the way of believing that works to destroy and water-down our autonomous experimenting (with community, independent thought, etc.) and solidarity connections with yet another whole group of people. And, decisively, we are 'pushed' to fall back on the alleged importance of 'experts' who are directly subordinate to statecraft.

I do not trust "man-made" or "designer" drugs, but wish to think carefully about the 'given' issues of today. Surely there are serious dangers to using substances, alleged poisons or otherwise, in the context of 'too much' or in the mode of 'typical shallowly-conscious alternative-culture' "consumer" types. On the other hand, if communities feeling "overwhelmed by" such challenges are committed enough to "radical" ways of being and living, I wonder if such situations as these may be "ju-jitsued" into potentially radically excellent articulations and becoming.

a bit about me: i'm kind of new to the scene but i love it. i'm 24 and a musician from the east coast. been west since june, which is when i first met some fairies in san francisco. i'm looking to move up to portland eventually, but right now i'm looking to be more involved in the scene and spend some quality time at wolf creek before samhain and then during as well. Samhain at Wolf Creek is celebration, communion, and ritual.
It is also camping, in the Oregon Woods, in October.
Take it from us Queen, a happy gathering means preparing for all weather scenarios!!!
It is usually sunny and hot during the day, and can be downright chilly at night.
This being Oregon, it may rain. Pack a couple of tarps.

There is an ongoing dialogue in our community regarding substance use.
These are our intentions for the use of medicines such as tobacco and other herbs and substances:
*To create a strong container and a clear conduit for our personal and tribal magic.
*To respect the diversity of experiences, beliefs, and boundaries around substance use.
*To support the healing work of those in recovery or struggling with addiction.
*To honor the medicine spirits and to ask for their blessings.

SPECIAL NEEDS
This is a camping scenario! We have very limited indoor space reserved for those with SERIOUS health concerns or disabilities. These spaces are for those who would otherwise be unable to participate in the gathering. So if you are able, please Camp It Up Honey!
When requesting special needs housing, please let us know what your special needs are and how we can help you meet them. We will do our best to accommodate special needs visitors. Those faeries who can’t deal with a camping scenario can book a room at the beautiful historic Wolf Creek Inn.

This Gathering happens because we choose, for a time, individually and as a community, to take care of each other and the land we're walking on. To live like loving family on a living Earth. For this Gathering to be sustainable, for it to flow in a good way and be fun for everybody, each single person needs to do their share....plus a little bit more.

So if you see something that needs attention (garbage needs taken out, a mess in the parking lot that has been there for three days etc.), don't just trip on down the trail like it's some other queen's job. Take the initiative!

A lot of love and work goes into this gathering. Meals need to be cooked, propane hauled and firewood cut, shitters cleaned and stocked, fire stations ready, circles and rituals led, trash hauled.

• FUN-Raisers: Organize delightful events to raise energy and money for the gathering and the Sanctuary.
• Kitchen Queens: Help the kitchen flow smoothly. Plan menus, help with ordering, manage the kitchen, support the cooks.
Ideally shared by several people. Be Kitchen Queen for a Day!
• Flowmeister: Help people hook up with jobs needing to be done. Be the logistical lubricant that makes the whole gathering run smoothly.
• Transportation Coordinator: Organize rides to & from Greyhound Grants Pass, Medford airport, Klamath Falls train station, and beyond.
• Zombie Surgeon General: Make sure the first aid kits are stocked and organize other Zombie Nurses (first aid / emergency response).
At the Gathering (see the Barn door for signups):
• Registration: Hang out at the Kiosk or the Barn to greet and orient new arrivals.
• Templekeepers: Help clean and tend the Garden House, Barn, and Temple of Love
• Firewood Czar: Organize woodcutting parties while looking all butch with a chainsaw.
• Fire Tenders: Help with firewood and keep our tribal fires burning.
• Cooks: Sign up with a couple of friends to cook a meal. Nourish your Faerie kin and make their tummies happy.
• Dishwashers: Dishwashers eat first and get blowjobs.
• Garden/Greenhouse: The Sanctuary can always use help with permaculture projects. Please check with land fae before helping out.
• Ritual Planning: Help hold the container and guide the energy for our communal magic.
• Shitter Patrol: Keep our trusty shitters clean and well-stocked. A humble yet vital job.
• Trash Hauler: Carry trash and recycling off the Land so we leave ZERO TRASH FOOTPRINT.
• Zombie Nurses: Be a clear and grounded presence to safeguard your fellow Faeries.

Some thoughts on Dogs (and other familiars)
Dogs roaming free can cause problems for the gathering.
No matter how lovely and well-behaved your dog may be, a pack of uncontrolled dogs on the land tends to bark, fight, poop, and sometimes bite.
They harass the land chickens and chase away wildlife.
For the comfort and safety of all, we ask:
PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG TO THE GATHERING.
A kennel is available in Merlin, the next town south, where you can board your furry loved one for $10/day. It is called Creekside Boarding, (541) 471-7144, ask for Donna.

Legalize Hemp and Cannabis in California

Right now there are two competing signature drives to put Cannabis legalization initiatives on the ballot in California in November 2010.

Please look carefully at the text of both laws (the text of each is finalized) and make up your own mind which one you support.

I am supporting www.CaliforniaCannabisInitiative.org because our law will protect Cannabis users from discrimination in

healthcare, employment, and housing. It is a full legalization measure for industrial hemp and recreational cannabis which will restore full human rights to Hemp farmers and Cannabis users all across California. Of course supplying Cannabis to children will remain illegal just as it is today. Driving vehicles under the influence will remain illegal just as it is today. Cannabis users will still be fired from their jobs if they show up to work impaired.

There are two parts to our plan. The first part is to publicly post and personally distribute our "Freedom Lover's Call to Arms" in order to recruit volunteers. This document is available here-

The second part of our plan is to ask everyone who volunteers to make a pledge for how many signatures they can collect in

the next 30 days or so. 15-30 signatures is a good number. If enough volunteers show this level of commitment we can succeed. You can probably get that number from your family members, friends, co-workers, and neighbors without having to solicit in public too much. This is an "out of the closet" movement. We will have to proudly advocate human rights for responsible, honest, hard-working Cannabis smokers in order to convince legitimate people to support us. I can supply stickers equivalent to each persons pledge number. These stickers can be used to generate interest and be given to voters who sign the petition. Here is the sticker design-

We have 145 days in order to get the number of signatures that we need. Our petition is hot off the press on 9/11 and we

have started collecting the first signatures yesterday 9/12.

We are polling 56% public support for Cannabis legalization in California which menas that this is an initiative which is not doomed. Its time has finally arrived; we are at the tipping point right now. Now is the time to do this and to do it right. We may only get one chance. If a law which is not exactly what we want is implemented then we may lose our critical mass and our ability to set it right.

I believe that less adults will smoke cannabis after it is legal. This is the case in the Netherlands where it has been

available over-the-counter for 30 years yet only half as many citizens (percentage-wise) smoke as do citizens here. My economics professor has taught for years that prohibition has not succeeded in decreasing usage by increasing penalties. Instead it has destroyed lives and families without substantial benefit to society. After legalization hard-drug usage will decrease due to a "separation of the markets," a decline in the price of Cannabis relative to hard-drugs, and the restoration of honesty and common sense in drug education. Violence, thievery, and the incarceration of honest people will decrease as well. I also believe that a well regulated market will decrease the availability and appeal of cannabis to children. In fact teenage Cannabis use in California has fallen steadily since the passage of Proposition 215. Furthermore the adults who smoke Cannabis after legalization will be better able appreciate the majesty of nature in peace and unity without learning to fear and disrespect authority figures. This will be better for their spirits and better for society. Finally the human rights of legitimate medical Cannabis patients will be better protected than they are today. Legalizing Cannabis will create a safer, healthier, and more humane California for us all to live in.

This call goes out to Radical Faeries to join together in San Francisco this October 2 to 4, 2009, to invigorate and inspire each other and to help lay the way for Radical Faeries around the world to achieve higher levels of awareness and cooperative action.

In honour of the 30th anniversary of the first national Radical Faerie gathering in 1979, we are gathering together once again to reflect upon and celebrate our hirstory, accomplishments and creative genius.

We are planning a gorgeous event of sharing information, thought-provoking ideas and reflections, and scrumptious entertainment. Last year’s FAEposium was intellectually juicy and gorgeously fun. We think this year’s event is not to be missed!

This, our second annual FAEposium, is no stodgy academic conference, but a mixture of faerie performance, inspirational papers, thought-provoking panels and lively discussions. We take as our model the classical Greek Symposia which were a mix of philosophical thought, entertainment, laughter, feasting, and propitiation of the gods.

What topic are you passionate for our community to talk about? Submit a proposal to facilitate that conversation! We’re interested in whatever creative ideas, wisdom or performative genius you would like to offer to the greater faerie community. We are not terribly impressed by academic credentials, but we are impressed by new ideas, provocative propositions, entertaining presentation styles, and thinking that may affect the development of our community and its future.

Performances

We invite live performances that offer more than art for art’s sake (or camp for camp’s sake)—we want to encourage thoughtful performances that engage and inspire the audience through their content, beauty or complexity.

Workshops, Panels and Presentations

These offer an opportunity to discuss and record our history; explore ideas that you feel passionate about that would be of interest or benefit to the Radical Faerie Community; examine issues confronting the Radical Faerie movement at this critical time; consider ways in which Radical Faeries in urban and rural settings can develop new gatherings and create new sanctuaries; provide venues for skill-sharing of many different types; explore the most pressing needs facing Faerie sanctuaries to help insure their strong future.

The FAEposium is a chance to share our collective and individual wisdom, and creative genius with the larger faerie community and the rest of the world. If you care about where our community is, you probably have something to say and we want to help you express it… using presentation styles most comfortable and best suited to you. Presentations, papers, panels and performance might include a variety of performance approaches, multimedia presentation, spoken word, music, drag, dance, new ideas and provocative propositions…. anything that gets us thinking, feeling and ready to move forward!

During the FAEposium, we’ll honor the gods and goddesses at a Radical Faerie Bacchanal with libations, bangin’ tunes, lovely food and much good conversation stimulated by all that has come before. Afterwards, we will honor Hestia by cleaning up after ourselves. We very much hope you can join us.

Need a place for the winter near SF

Hey, faeries.

My partner Harlan and I are coming to the California Bay Area this fall, and we are trying to find a place to stay through the winter.

Most important is that we find a place to stay for little or no rent -- we're in the middle of a big transition in our lives, and we're looking for some time and space to figure out what comes next for us. We are very happy to discuss things like work trade, non-monetary exchanges, caretaking/house-sitting situations, and the like. We are not at all picky about amenities, and don't mind considering any sort of unusual situation. Hoping to be close to the urb, but willing to think about rural locales too.

We are hoping to find a place to stay through the end of the winter, but really, we're interested to hear about anything people might have to offer. I think that we're both pretty awesome (but that's my take), and could truly use some help in the next few months in order to gather ourselves for lives of being more in service to our community and our planet. There are a number of people who could act as character refs for us if you don't know us personally -- just ask.

This is the first time ever that I actually have the ability to go and experience the burn. I have only been hearing about this unique experience and now it's finally my time to go as well. I am an artist (poet, singer and actor) who's work is very sporadic and is constantly trying to survive. I can not afford the full price tickets and if only I knew about it earlier I would have applied to the low income artist scholarship tickets. The price of normal
Who, exactly, does gay marriage benefit?

With a
2010 state proposition on gay marriage in the works and a national gay rally on
the Washington Mall being planned for October 10-11 of that year, it's obvious
that more and more of the LGBT community's resources are being funneled into
the battle for marriage equality, while other causes go begging.
Already
gay marriage has become a black hole that is sucking untold amounts of money,
time, and energy out of our community. In the 2008 election alone, gay marriage
supporters raised $43.3 million to defeat Proposition 8, the anti-gay marriage
initiative that California
voters passed by 52 percent. It may be the biggest chunk of change the
community has ever spent for a single fight.
A
QUESTION OF PRIORITIES
I'm not
against gay marriage. If queer couples want to be as miserable as straight
ones, that's their choice. Marriage is a failed institution. With a 54.8
percent divorce rate nationally and a 60 percent rate here in California,
there's no doubt in my mind that heterosexual "wedded bliss" is more
of an oxymoron than a reality.
What's
troubling to me as a queer activist of almost 40 years (much of that time spent
on economic justice work) is that, with the tremendous amount of homelessness,
poverty, and unemployment in our community, we are spending so much dough on
the fight to give a minority of folks — those who opt for tying the knot
— rights and privileges that straight married folks have.
Sure,
it's unfair that married straights get tax breaks, not to mention the status of
next-of-kin for hospital visits and medical decisions when one partner is ill,
and queers don't. Altogether, married couples have 1,400 benefits, both state
and federal, that domestic partners and single people don't enjoy. It's a matter
of simple justice that the playing field be leveled. Only a right-wing idiot
could disagree with that. Now, if only we could fight to give everyone
(including singles) those 1,400 benefits.
For me
it's a question of priorities. We are living in scary times. Unemployment is
sky-high; millions are without healthcare, including children; foreclosures are
robbing homeowners and tenants alike of their housing; and business collapses
are leaving a lot of people out in the cold and unable to pay the rent or the
mortgage.
DINKS
NO MORE
The queer
community is no better off.
It's a
popular misconception that queers have a lot of disposable income. The
"double income, no kids" (DINK) myth was promoted in the 1980s by gay
publishers who wanted to expand their advertising base and their profits. These
days, to read many gay publications, you'd think that all queers are going on
fabulous vacations and buying expensive clothes, jewelry, and electronic
gizmos.
That myth
was easily dispelled by a recent study, "Poverty in the Lesbian, Gay and
Bisexual Community," published this March by the Williams Institute at
UCLA. Like "Income Inflation: the myth of affluence among gay, lesbian,
and bisexual Americans," the groundbreaking 1998 study by M.V. Lee Badgett
of the Department of Economics at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst,
the Williams report found that many members of our community aren't shopping
'til they drop. They can barely afford to put food on the table.
Nationally,
24 percent of lesbians and bisexual women are poor compared to 19 percent of
heterosexual women; 15 percent of gay and bisexual men are poor compared to 13
percent of heterosexual men.
Queers
aren't just low on cash — we're homeless, too. A 2006 report,
"Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Youth: An Epidemic of
Homelessness" from the National Lesbian and Gay Task Force and the
National Coalition on Homelessness, showed that 20 percent to 40 percent of the
1.6 million homeless youth in America identify as LGBT. In San Francisco, the number of queers in the
homeless youth population (estimated at 4,000 by the Mayor's Office) is
"roughly 44 percent," according to Dr. Mike Toohey of the Homeless
Youth Alliance in the Haight.
Brian
Basinger of the AIDS Housing Alliance says that 40 percent of people with
HIV/AIDS, in the city once acclaimed for its care of those with the disease,
are either "unstably housed or are homeless." In the Castro, Basinger
said, there are only "12 dedicated HOPWA beds" for people with the
disease. HOPWA (Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS) is a federal
voucher program for low-income people with AIDS that is similar to federal
housing assistance program Section 8.
Certain
members of our community don't fare much better in the area of employment. A
2006 survey by the Guardian and
the Transgender Law Center
reported that 75 percent of transgender people are not employed full-time, and
59 percent make less than $15,299 a year. A mere 4 percent of respondents
earned more than $61,200, the then-median income average for San Francisco.
Fifty-seven
percent of trangendered people said they suffered employment discrimination,
demonstrating the need for the inclusion of "gender identity" in the
federal Employment Non-discrimination Act. Human Rights Campaign, a national gay
organization, and out Congress member Barney Frank (D-Mass.) cut transgenders
out of that legislation the last time it was up before Congress.
It could
all get a whole lot worse.
AXING
THE FUTURE
Gov.
Arnold Schwarzenegger wants to lop at least $81 million from California's AIDS budget, including money
for AIDS drugs, leaving low-income people stranded without their medication.
Senior services are also on his cutting block, including $230.8 million from
in-home services and $117 million from adult health-care programs. (As we go to
press, the state Legislature is working to restore the AIDS money to the
budget.)
Mayor
Gavin Newsom, in his proposed city budget cuts, is axing $128.4 million from
public health and $15.9 million from human services. There's no doubt these
cuts in health and human services will severely affect people with AIDS,
seniors, youth, the homeless, and others in our community who can least afford
to pay for the city's budget shortfall.
The
millions spent on gay marriage in the past few years could have gone a long way
in these lean times. It could have helped make the proposed queer senior
housing project, Open House, a reality. With 88 units in the works at 55 Laguna St., the
site of the old UC extension, it will be the only such housing for LGBT seniors
in San Francisco.
The money
also could have funded housing in the Castro for homeless queer youth or people
with AIDS. It could have been used as seed money for a much-needed war against
poverty in the LGBT community.
A
DIFFERENT KIND OF LIBERATION
The queer
movement hasn't always been this obsessed about getting hitched. Forty years
ago this week, drag queens and others fought back against the cops who were
raiding a gay bar called the Stonewall Inn in New York City's
West Village. Three days of protests led to
the creation of the Gay Liberation Front (GLF), a revolutionary group dedicated
to the sexual liberation of all people. GLFers weren't looking to walk down the
aisle or form binary couples. In a desire to "abolish existing social
institutions, " as the NYC branch of GLF said in its statement of purpose,
some GLFers explored polyamory (more than one relationship at a time).
That's
why I edited Smash the Church, Smash the
State! The Early Years of Gay Liberation, just published by City
Lights Books, a collection of writings by former GLF members and other gay
liberationists. I wanted to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Stonewall and
the birth of GLF with a reminder of who we were and what we did. After all
these years, I still don't want to head to the chapel to get married.
When it
really comes down to it, gay marriage is a conservative issue. It's about
wanting to fit in, to be like everyone else. Beyond the important issues of tax
breaks and next-of-kin status — and the fact that if any institution
exists, it shouldn't discriminate against queers — marriage is ultimately
a means of normalizing binary queer relationships, especially for gay men who
have always enjoyed the freedom to be promiscuous. It's a way to try and rein
in our libidos, though the prevalence of extramarital sex among straight
couples — 50 percent for women, 60 percent for men, according to a recent
issue of Journal of Couple and Relationship
Therapy — shows that marriage doesn't come with a chastity
belt.
It also
doesn't come with any guarantees, as researchers discovered in Sweden, where
queers were able to contract for same-sex partnerships from 1995 until
recently, when full same-sex marriage was instituted. According to a study by
the Institute for Marriage and Public Policy, Swedish queers have been
divorcing in high numbers, like their straight counterparts, who have a divorce
rate that's just a little higher than the United States.
For
queers in Sweden,
that's the price of being normal.

Since the early 1990s there have been various waves of interest in what is often described as “masculine spirituality”. While diverse, a commonality among these interests has been a concern that spirituality has become too feminine, and that men’s experiences of the spiritual are being marginalized. Masculine spirituality is therefore about promoting what it perceives to be authentic masculine characteristics within a spiritual context. By examining the nature of these characteristics, Numen, Old Men argues that masculine spirituality is little more than a thinly veiled patriarchal spirituality. The mythopoetic, evangelical, and to a lesser extent Catholic men’s movements all promote a heteropatriarchal spirituality by appealing to neo-Jungian archetypes of a combative and oppressive nature, or understanding men’s role as biblically ordained leader of the family. Numen, Old Men then examines Ken Wilber’s integral spirituality which aims to honour and transcend both the masculine and feminine, but which privileges the former to the extent where it becomes another masculine spirituality, with all its inherent patriarchal problems. Gay spirituality is then offered as a form of masculine spirituality which to a large degree resists patriarchal tendencies, suggesting a queering of spirituality could be useful for all men, both gay and straight.

Sometimes I find it hard

To sit with my Fey brothers. Although I will probably be skewered for it, there *does* seem to be an age, race, and assumed political positioning (these folks consider themselves liberals...).

I have thought about it, and it isn't that I cannot accept difference... but I do find it hard to accept people who are wantonly closed-minded and don't even recognize it. I mean, perhaps it is my limits -- how I am conceiving what a "Radical Faerie" is to me...

... it's like when I meet an Aquarian who is not unique or a maverick... this sense of acceptance, yes, but also let down.

Yes, dancing around what it really is because I don't want to get into a whole thing about something that doesn't matter. Just wondering: In your local communities, I am sure there are other Faeries that you find it hard to deal with sometimes. Maybe it's a personality thing or a philosophical thing... maybe it's old history or what have you. What I am wondering is... how do you manage to let go of how you are feeling (because no one can make you feel anything... you make yourself feel) without dropping the person from your consciousness and awareness (which is what I usually do when someone upsets me... Unfortunately, some people don't know how to stop being assholes even after you stick a finger in it to let them know they are more than that)?

We are so diverse... and yet, it's these... rather non-radical folks who aren't accepting of other people, different paths that really do me in. Maybe it is because I know how hard I have had to fight in order to keep myself open? (... it feels like a mirroring of something) No, it isn't that. I am a supporter of the underdog. And when someone starts trashing on people I consider to be underdogs -- like myself -- I become all metal and talon-y.

Not all faeries, whether radical or not (cuz as MoonSong pointed out to me, it IS like the "radical" part has been lost, are underdogs. Some faeries are quite immersed in the world of men (str8 men) and those values.... To each, right? But what I do not like seeing is when those values are turned against the have-nots from within.

I mean... sometimes, what we call ourselves is all we own. But perhaps that's something else.

Just tell me... how do you deal with the differences in RadFae community where it comes to reckless privilege having?

WORKSHOP – INTRODUCTION TO BOUFFON

In the realm of bouffon, the audience is the joke. Their greatest joy is to make fun of the audience, its values and flaws. This pack of grotesque outsiders engages in a direct relationship with the spectators using intelligence, charm, and an ecstatic sense of play. To play as bouffon is to celebrate contrast and paradox. They hate you, yet they flatter you. Hideously deformed yet beautiful, wickedly insane yet prophetic, bouffons explode with joy and mockery and create ferocious social satire. No one is safe. In this workshop participants will explore:

-Discovering the body and mind of your bouffon

-Playing upon contrasts of state and rhythm

-Connecting with the audience

-Being 100% present and captivating

-Parodying societal maladies and hypocrisies

This workshop is in preparation for Naked Empire Bouffon Company’s inaugural production, San Francisco Blows, a grotesque satire of the queer community, that will premiere at Mama Calizo’s Voice Factory August 20-29th. It is free, but space is limited. You must RSVP with Artistic Director, Nathaniel Justiniano by Saturday, May 23rd in order to attend. Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate walk-ins.

This is also an audition opportunity. We are seeking a female physical theatre performer to be our 5th cast member. As this is a production ‘by, for, and about’ the queer community, the actress must identify as non-straight. She does not need previous experience with bouffon but must be comfortable with improvisation and intense physical performance. Each performer will be a co-creator of this new work. Actresses of color and of all ages are highly encouraged to audition. Please contact Nathaniel Justiniano for more details.

When: Sunday, May 24th, 12p – 6p (w/ a 30 min break)

Where: Mama Calizo’s Voice Factory, 1519 Mission St. (between South Van Ness and 11th St)

What to bring: Water. Snacks. Although there will be a break there isn’t really any local fast food in the area. Padding. Please bring at least one grocery sized bag or larger of pillows, extra large movement clothes, stretchable fabrics, etc. Articles will get dirty and sweaty, but shouldn’t be ruined. The more, the better.

Naked Empire Bouffon Company was founded in 2009 by Nathaniel Justiniano and combines social activism with grotesque satire in original, actor-created bouffon performances for the stage and street.

Nathaniel Justiniano has been a professional actor and director for 10 years and he is a DIY Artist-in-Residence at Mama Calizo’s Voice Factory, one of the city’s most popular new centers for queer and activist performance. He holds an MFA in Ensemble-Based Physical Theater from Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theater, North America’s center for the research, training, and performance of the actor/creator, where he collaborated or led the creation of nineteen new productions for the stage in a two and a half year period. In 2007 he co-created Pax Americana, a satire of war as seen through the lens of United States history and EUOI!, a bouffon experiment in ecstatic ritual. More recently, he performed with the SF Buffoons in their productions of The Hasheesh Eater and Spunk, a satire of gold rush-era San Francisco. Mr. Justiniano has also been a professional community organizer and educator for GLBT youth empowerment programs for Childrens Hospital Los Angeles and the LA Gay & Lesbian Center, as well as a program manager for community-based theater initiatives out of the National Conference for Community & Justice and Cornerstone Theater Company.

The PermiBus II is Coming to Town!

The world is changing fast – peak oil, climate change, globalization, difficult economic times, banking crisis, government infringement of personal rights…the list goes on.

What new world will emerge as we boldly step into this new millennium? What will you contribute to shaping the future? What skills do you need to create your tomorrow?

The Skills for New Millennium Tour hits the road again in 2009 bringing you skills you need to meet the challenges of the New Millennium. Change can be intimidating. Therefore, the skills we offer; grounded in decades of activism, poverty, and spiritual consciousness; emphasize making small, marginal changes that are critical to survival in difficult economic times, changes that help you live what you believe.

The improved Earth Activist Training (EAT) Permaculture Demonstration Bus (Permibus II) is on the road, visiting communities nationwide, in order to offer you and your community practical skills to help you wrest control of your life from corporate hands. The PermiBus is a 36-foot mobile permaculture demonstration project in progress; complete with solar power, greywater system, herb garden, composting toilet, three dogs, a clutch of chickens, and a box of worms. Our goal? To teach practical skills that make you and your community more environmentally and economically sustainable.

The Skills for the New Millennium Tour offers programs to anyone who wants to host a Skills Event: individuals, community groups, high schools, colleges, intentional communities.... We know that community needs are diverse, so we offer a wide variety of program options that can be mixed and matched to best meet your needs. In addition we can bring the Permibus to your local Co-op, event, or festival. We provide tours of our permaculture systems, perform the permi-puppet show, and teach short informationals to demonstrate the simple ways folks can take fun, easy steps toward more sustainable lives.

 Homesteading Skills such as a variety of Permaculture classes, canning, and chickens
 Citizenship Skills such as community conflict resolution, consensus, and nonviolent direct action

3) DONATE MONEY: The Skills for a New Millennium Tour does not charge for our programs. We ask for donations from who support our work. I've noticed a lot of people don't participate in anything that doesn't have some sort of controversial slant. People I haven't seen in AGES on the internet suddenly post something to belittle and demean someone else's thoughts. (My post is only somewhat related to negativity so please bear with me)

I am why don't we see 102 responses on positive posts. Is there some reason this is an exclusively negative trend?

What makes you personally not add input on anything that doesn't involve some kind of conflict. Are the Simon Cowell's of the world taking over?!?!? hehehe (I'd love it if people could post in this thread without pointing fingers but I dont expect it.)

Many people I know are suprised I'm don't really consider myself a faerie (yet?) and I'm really wanting to explore this side of myself. Summer Restaurant Help In Zuni Land

The Ancient Way Cafe and El Morro RV Park is located about 10 miles from ZMS on Highway 53. We specialize in Home cooking with a Fairie Flair. We employ 4 Fairies and will need more for the summer.If you have a vehicle ZMS is a place to stay. We also have camping on the property, so without transportation costs, etc., one could save a good bit. I am mainly looking for kitchen help. SF Pride FFV 09

Well hello folks,
Anyone coming to SF from outta state for pride this year?This years Pride we are planning to have several events for Fay folks to gather at. Kind of a City Farie Gathering as it were. Such as having a stage at Pink Saturday and a Tea party in the plaza on the Saturday before pride. And Various Brunches and evening events. I am compiling events and making an event calendar for Fairys (notice how I change the spelling of Feries allot, kinda like some change their names) There are several things needed but mostly we just need each other to get together and make our lives more fabulous. Here is a list of some of those things.
Performers
Musicians
Decorators and Set up
People for Security (yes our own Homoland Security)
People to help with food
People for Clean up and Take down.

There are other things needed also such as materials for decorating the village, did you know they charge us around 1200 dollars for the privacy fencing alone...... HELLLLO We are fay folks I am sure we can find a way to cut the cost and find fabulous materials to hide our village and make it cute. I don't need to talk about how much they wanted to charge for everything we have rented in past years (I went through and made cutbacks that were not necessary) But folks we can make magic happen without having to Rent tents and several other things that we ourselves can produce at 1 fourth the cost. So I am putting out a call lets make FFV feel like a magical world this year.
Anyway summer is coming. I invite anyone that wants to help with Gay Pride FFV to please contact me and just tell me what you would like to participate in. I am going to be the Manager of Fairie Freedom Village this year and there will be allot going on. Fairy Freedom Village is the only space at Gay Pride that doesn't have any buying or selling of products, there are no referendums to sign, or anyone to vote for, or anything to register to vote for, in fact Its main purpose is to be a space where we can just celebrate together.

Aldous Huxley on over-organization and social engineering

Thought I'd post this as another kind of "back up" for my post mentioning Synergee in the title. This backs up my stance that we think carefully about too quickly (?) accepting "neo" or "pop-psychology"-type ways of seeing and envisioning ourselves, while excluding or marginalizing others (whom may be "beautiful swans" in armored disguise) in the process.

You've heard almost everywhere of _Brave New World_, the famous novel by Aldous Huxley, yet have you heard of the much more rare book, "Brave New World--REVISITED" (Harper & Row, 1958, 1965), which provokes thought on topics that are much deeper than mere critique of the Russians? Here are excerpts from this exceptional book, at last! (slightly edited for easier reading and such)

Chapter III. Over Organization

"The Power Elite...influences the thoughts, the feelings and the actions of virtually everybody. (p.19)

"We see, then, that modern technology has led to the concentration of economic and political power, and to the development of a society controlled (ruthlessly in the totalitarian states, politely and inconspicuously in the democracies) by Big Business and Big Government. But societies are composed of individuals and are good only insofar as they help individuals to realize their potentialities and to lead a happy and creative life. How have individuals been affected by the technological advances of recent years? Here is the answer to this question given by a philosopher-psychiatrist, Dr.Erich Fromm:

Our contemporary Western society, in spite of its material, intellectual and political progress, is increasingly less conducive to mental health, and tends to undermine the inner security, happiness, reason and the capacity for love in the individual; it tends to turn him into an automaton who pays for his human failure with increasing mental sickness, and with despair hidden under a frantic drive for work and so-called pleasure." (p.20)

Me, the editor, wonders what this frantic drive is about, and i come up with the idea that the people who buy into the Given imagination even to the detriment of their sanities, would frantically drive for whichever so-called "Norm" was Given to/coerced for them to be. What do you think?

Huxley, quoting Fromm:
"Our 'increasing mental sickness' may find expression in neurotic symptoms. These symptoms are conspicuous and extremely distressing. But 'let us beware', says Dr.Fromm, 'of defining mental hygiene as the prevention of symptoms. Symptoms as such are not our enemy, but our friend; where there are symptoms there is conflict, and conflict always indicates that the forces of life which strive for integration and happiness are still fighting.' The really hopeless victims of mental illness are to be found among those who appear to be most normal.

'Many of them are normal because they are so well adjusted to our mode of existence, because their human voice has been silenced so early in their lives, that they do not even struggle or suffer or develop symptoms as the neurotic does.' They are normal not in what may be called the absolute sense of the word; they are normal only in relation to a profoundly abnormal society. Their perfect adjustment to that abnormal society is a measure of their mental sickness.

These millions of abnormally normal people, living without fuss in a society to which, if they were fully human beings, they ought not to be adjusted, still cherish 'the illusion of individuality,' but in fact they have been to a great extent deindividualized. Their conformity is developing into something like uniformity. But 'uniformity and freedom are incompatible. Uniformity and mental health are incompatible too...Man is not made to be an automaton, and if he becomes one, the basis for mental health is destroyed.'"

"In the course of evolution nature has gone to endless trouble to see that every individual is unlike every other individual. We reproduce our kind by bringing the father's genes into contact with the mother's. These hereditary factors may be combined in an almost infinite number of ways. Physically and mentally, each one of us is unique.

Any culture which, in the interests of efficiency or in the name of some political or religious dogma, seeks to standardize the human individual, commits an outrage against man's biological nature.

"Science may be defined as the reduction of multiplicity to unity. It seeks to explain the endlessly diverse phenomena of nature by ignoring the uniqueness of particular events, concentrating on what they have in common and finally abstracting some kind of 'law,'...(gives examples) (p.21)

"Here the theoretical reduction of unmanageable multiplicity to comprehensible unity becomes the practical reduction of human diversity to subhuman uniformity, of freedom to servitude. In politics the equivalent of a fully developed scientific theory or philosophical system is a totalitarian dictatorship. In economics, th equivalent of a beautifully composed work of art is the smoothly running factory in which the workers are perfectly adjusted to the machines.

"The 'Will to Order' has produced many premature syntheses based upon insufficient evidence, many absurd systems of metaphysics and theology, much pedantic mistaking of notions for realities, of symbols and abstractions for the data of immediate experience...[and] it sometimes happens that a bad philosophical system may do harm...by being used as a justification for senseless and inhuman actions. It is in the social sphere, in the realm of politics and economics, that the Will to Order becomes really dangerous. (p.22)

"The Will to Order can make tyrants out of those who merely aspire to clear up a mess. The beauty of tidiness is used as a justification for despotism.

"Organization is indispensable; for liberty arises and has meaning only within a self-regulating community of freely co-operating individuals. But, though indispensable, organization can also be fatal. Too much organization transforms men and women into automata, suffocates the creative spirit and abolishes the very possibility of freedom.

"As usual, the only safe course is in the middle, between the extremes of laissez-faire at one end of the scale and of total control at the other. (p.23)

"During the past century (1850s to 1950s--ed) the successive advances in technology have been accompanied by corresponding advances in organization. Complicated machinery has had to be matched by complicated social arrangements, designed to work as smoothly and efficiently as the new instruments of production. In order to fit into these organizations, individuals have had to deindiviualize themselves, have had to deny their native diversity and conform to a standard pattern, have had to do their best to become automata.

"Subject to this kind of [alienated] life, individuals tend to feel lonely and insignificant. Their existence ceases to have any point or meaning.
(...)
"Brave New World presents a fanciful and somewhat ribald picture of a society, in which the attempt to recreate human beings in the likeness of termites has been pushed almost to the limits of the possible. That we are being propelled in the direction of Brave New World is obvious. But no less obvious is the fact that we can, if we so desire, refused to cooperate with the blind forces that are propelling us. For the moment, however, the wish to resist does not seem to be very strong or very widespread.

"As Mr. William Whyte has shown in his remarkable book, The Organization Man, a new Social Ethic is replacing our traditional ethical system--the system in which the individual is primary. The key words in this Social Ethic are "adjustment," "adaptation," "socially orientated behavior," "belongingness," "acquisition of social skills," "team work," "group living," "group loyalty," "group dynamics," "group thinking," "group creativity." Its basic assumption is that the social whole has greater worth and significance than its individual parts, that inborn biological differences should be sacrificed to cultural uniformity, that the rights of the collectivity take precedence over what the eighteenth century called the Rights of Man.

"According to [this] Social Ethic, Jesus [of Nazareth] was completely wrong in asserting that the Sabbath was made for man. On the contrary, man was made for the Sabbath, and must sacrifice his inherited idiosyncrasies and pretend to be the kind of standardized good mixer that organizers of group activity regard as ideal for their purposes.

"This ideal man is the man who displays 'dynamic conformity' (delicious phrase!) and an intense loyalty to the group, and unflagging desire to subordinate himself, to belong.

"[An organization] is not good in itself; it is good only to the extent that it promotes the good of the individuals who are the parts of the collective whole. To give organizations precedence persons is to subordinate ends to means. What happens when ends are subordinated to means was clearly demonstrated by Hitler and Stalin.

"Under their hideous rule personal ends were subordinated to organizational means by a mixture of violence and propaganda, systematic terror and the systematic manipulation of minds.

"In the more efficient dictatorships of tomorrow there will probably be much less violence than under Hitler and Stalin. The future dictator's subjects will be painlessly regimented by a corps of highly trained social engineers. 'The challenge of social engineering in our time,' writes an enthusiastic advocate of this new science, 'is like the challenge of technical engineering fifty years ago. If the first half of the twentieth century was the era of the technical engineers, the second half may well be the era of the social engineers'--and the twenty-first century, I suppose, will be the era of World Controllers, the scientific caste system and Brave New World.

"To the question quis custodiet custodes?--Who will mount guard over our guardians, who will engineer the engineers?--the answer is a bland denial that they need any supervision. There seems to be a touching belief among certain Ph.D's in sociology that Ph.D.'s in sociology will never be corrupted by power. Like Sir Galahad's, their strength is as the strength of ten because their heart is pure--and their heart is pure because they are scientists and have taken six thousand hours of social studies.

"Alas, higher education is not necessarily a guarantee of higher virtue, or higher political wisdom. And to these misgivings on ethical and psychological grounds must be added misgivings of a purely scientific character.

"Can we accept the theories on which the social engineers base their practice, and in terms of which they justify their manipulations of human beings?

"For example, Professor Elton Mayo ([of the Mayo Clinic?--ed]) tells us categorically that 'man's desire to be continuously associated in work with his fellows is a strong, if not the strongest human characteristic.' This, I would say, is manifestly untrue. Some people have the kind of desire described in Mayo; others do not. It is a matter of temperament and inherited constitution.

"Any social organization based upon the assumption that 'man' (whoever 'man' may be) desires to be continuously associated with his fellows would be, for many individual men and women, a bed of Procrustes. Only by being amputated or stretched upon the [torture] rack could they be adjusted to it.

"Again, how romantically misleading are the lyrical accounts of the Middle Ages with which many contemporary theorists of social relations adorn their works! 'Membership in a guild, manorial estate or village protected medieval man throughout his life and gave him peace and serenity.' Protected him from what, we may ask. Certainly not from remorseless bullying at the hands of his superiors.

Others whom i have respected and learned from have brought this type of thing to my attention before, and i have thought about it for awhile now. And i think it's about time i responded with my ways of seeing. Because I see a grey area here that i think others are missing (because i see no one discussing it).

Some of us, in our self-taught ways of dealing with the realities we get to deal with (i.e. due to our past, not-fully-comprehending "choices" to stand up for some truth or what-have-you), have learned *not* to simply forgive others whom have trespassed upon us (whether intentionally, mistakenly, flailingly, or not).

There are good reasons and bad reasons for this.

Some good reasons:
In my reality, I've had to go about life largely in "trial by error" mode up to now; a self-taught way of dealing with stress and such things. So, I've learned from what resonates with me. The path i've been on has, admittedly, been way too solo. I figured that that was the only "safe" way to proceed. But in the process, i have become too much of "an island".

I'm going to try to articulate this but i'm having a hard time with it.

In my self-taught ways, i've learned for instance, to keep a kind of informal catalog (in my head) of persons whom have seemingly sought to be aggressive towards me, or at least towards the ideas i've tried to articulate over the years. I've done this because of the heaviness of some of those aggressions.

But everyone gets to experience aggressions of various sorts in this society, so why should *i* be any different? Why should i become the veritable *martyr* seeking to pull at your heartstrings (so that you might truly hear)? What qualitively different could i possibly be on that merits your moving away from the, er, herd, and perhaps risking getting labled like my dissent may've been labeled?

All i wish to say at this juncture is:

Imagine for a moment that you are a jew in, say, 1920s germany. You are seeing anti-semitism rearing its ugly head yet again (as it has time and again in history), and you feel that you might contribute to a resistance against such. But every other german is apparently unable to see this building phenomenon. They are in fact, quite immersed, seemingly happily immersed in a kind of jovial approach to life. An approach which cheerfully ignores "trolls" and anyone else who would "try" to put a damper on the little bit of joy they are finally finding.

And thus they respond by categorically denying your seeing, your sensitivity, telling you that *it is best to forgive and forget*!

How curious a position to take. Something i've been studying from time to time, yet seeing a most curious pattern and form taking shape.

On the one hand, for those not being (or no longer being) officially persecuted/oppressed/silenced/blocked-out, such a suggestion ("forgive and forget!") makes A LOT of sense. On the other hand, for the jew in 1920s germany, another problem entirely. For now, all the folks who are positioning themselves as being "drama free" and all of such and so forth, are acting as though your truths as you see them have no merit!

And the situation builds.

While those germans who might've been able to help "nip [anti-semitism] in the bud" before it became what it did (and affected many many other groups), had fully *rationalized away* this development! Making it so that it seemed that nazi-ism was merely a SUDDEN thing...and somehow incomprehensible. When in fact it was the result of a long drawn-out process of ever-heightening REFUSAL to SEE, refusal to listen, with sprinkled in assumptions like "it'll never happen here".

Sadly, quite a "normal" reality for, as far as i can see, ALL "civilized"/"developed" societies today.

Bob Moore, in his book _Victims and Survivors_ (of the nazi holocaust in europe, and especially in Holland), touched significantly on the phenomenon. It's an important read, if you can find it. He mentioned how the elite sectors of Dutch jewish society were *prevented* from even seeing the building danger. How their very "well educated" consciousness was rendered in such a way as to be taken fully by surprise when the inevitable happened.

So this is part of where my dissent from popularized, professional forms of mediation (aka social "management" techniques) and analysis has come from. Where my systematic attempts to demystify "a good education" (the phrase coined by Chomsky) hail from. Where my seemingly lonely sniping stand (at least amongst faeries) in challenge to the sophisticated, streamlined, heavily-funded neo-"pop"-social psychology mind-set holds out.

And has learned not to "forgive" so easily. Or at least, has learned to keep some kind of record of actions, patterns, and allegations coming from my fellow victims of this kind of society we live in (and, yes, I can categorize *all* into being "fellow victims", even if/when they are professionals seeking to divide and conquer our dreams).

Walk in the shoes of a jew in early-fascist germany, and look deeper than the nazi program.

An important voice of anti-psych-coercion, Peter Breggin, MD, has actually contributed some important insights into the phenomenon of social service professionals contributing significantly to the holocaust, and if you take a read of the pdf file linked below, you will start to see, i think, parallels to things that i am saying,
i.e. of the "well educated" not only taking up positions of *uncomprehending trust* in Given ways of allegedly solving "problems" (like so many seemingly sophisticated faeries), but also being "willing accomplices" who "believed in" the nazi system --in the seeming absence of any other "solution" to the alleged "problem"!

Breggin exposes how the psychiatric profession actually contributed significantly to the nazi imagination! Many of you won't, perhaps, know from what vantage point i am coming from in relating this part of human history, but that's okay with me. For those of you whom *are* familiar with such, i ask you to please consider what i'm saying. Especially as you absorb and try to wield the seeming all-encompassing validity of statements like "forgiving" those whom have perpetuated war against their fellow humans.

Having said all of this, perhaps I am missing key insights in all of this? Well, that's part of what i love about the radical faeries, after all! That i can sometimes have a habit of underestimating you!

Still, so far, i have felt that i have HAD to proceed as i have proceeded, albeit imperfectly (someone once said to me, "perfectly imperfectly" and i liked that line of thought). And have HAD to remain wary and "hold onto" things both said and done in the past. And not merely as a way of processing in the only place i have so often felt i can only trust (i.e. in my own personal spirituality).

Where i have sought to bring attention back to "old" situations over and over again, this comes not without reason. Tho *differently abled* than you are apparently having your attention hooked into seeing.

A little love to Dream Eagle for the virtual heart circle he created on his profile page; his sharing got me to step away from some of the bad feelings i've kept too long over the years towards him. See, i *can* step away from some!

Finally, i think it's mistaken of so many faeries these days to apparently hold the belief that their fellows should have to "go it alone" with the various hangups and blocks we have developed in this kind of society. On one hand i see merit to such (i.e. to not be overwhelmed), and on another, i see folly; especially in the long run. For the Centered and Balanced today could easily become the Off-centered and Way-off-balanced of tomorrow.

Rigidly, i categorically dissent from such tactics, calling for more creative use of our intelligence to help people process out/through their/our "stuff", and in the long run, bring the "ugly ducklings" (of any age) into continually-becoming excellences of the "beautiful swan" phenomenon we often so much dream of living amongst!

May all the most hostile (and not trusting) dissenters and cast-offs from fae community find themselves radically celebrated in such a way as to not merely build up our communities of sanity, but LEAD visionarily! Because those who stick with their intutions/critique most heatedly today, could well be vital CHAMPIONS in the future! (and that goes for those who dissent most heatedly against groups i belong to as well!)

Gay and Aging

I am interested in creating a program for the gay and aging. It would be an assisted living facility that specifically cares for those who are retired or permanently disabled. I am very interested in speaking with people who are interested in creating such a project and those who have worked in similar projects. Also, if you have contacts with groups who are interested in doing this type of project that have not yet found funding for it. I recieved a grant to seed the project, and though I have experience in such an environment Id like to iron out a few kinks in the current model.

We offer profound gratitude to the communities and people that have given us so much support over these last few months. the blending and expansion of community bonds and kinship is such a part of why chaos exists.

We write with humility and appreciation to say we still need your help. Financially, we are struggling. the care and hospice of our beloved bumble be and the resultant flow of extended visitors last fall was very intense for us and we are still in recovery mode.

We are planning a fundraising party for the coming spring equinox, and will post details about that as they emerge. As always, chaos is happy to accept donations of almost anything that contributes to the flow of the house.

We ask the wondrous range of faeries, witches and weirdos to please find a different fabulous scene for hanging out, staying over, processing, and all the myriad things that people often do here. Our energy levels, be they psychic, spiritual, green, or psychological, are still recovering from being maxed out.

Faeries and Addiction----You Are NOT Powerless

I see from reading some threads and from my own experiences that addictions are an issue in some faerie communities. It was with me a few years ago, but I have moved on. I used a progam called Self Management and Recovery Training or SMART. This program is different from the 12 step approach in many ways. The key difference being that we are not powerless over addiction and that all of us have the capicity to stop using substances that cause us harm. Link for SMART www.smartrecovery.org/

I am also providing here a link to a site that points out why AA does not work for many people. There are many alternatives to the 12 steps out there. AA is not the only game in town. In fact according to AA's own survey only about 5% to 10% of people who join are still sober after one year. We are probably moving to Marrowstone Island and need a place to rent 1-2 days per week so that TM can get care for his stroke(speech therapy and yoga) and I can get HIV care. We need a King County address and we will be in town probably overnight each week.

~The 30th anniversary of a gay male counterculture exploration~
Opens- February 28th-

Antebellum, known as the only fetish art gallery in the world, continues
it's tradition of including the previously excluded cultural movements
with a group of artworks presented for and by RADICAL FAERIES.

In the summer of 1979, a group of gay men met somewhere in the Arizona
desert. Frustrated with the limitations of urban environments,
gay men of all ages & backgrounds began exploration of themselves and
their sexuality in more organic forms. A post-Stonewall movement was
created. Various fractions of Radical Faeries continue to this day.

2009 marks the 30th anniversary of this unique group. This exhibition
explores the movement's roots and perhaps where it is going in the
future.
A HISTORY OF RADICAL FAERIES:

The Faeries trace the origin of their movement's name to a "Spiritual
Conference for Radical Faeries" called in 1979 by Harry Hay, John
Burnside, Don Kilhefner, and Mitch Walker in Benson, Arizona.

I'm Shiloh and my partners name is Mirror and our dogs name is Little'un. We are traveling to the bay area this month hoping to connect with our radical friends we know from SMS, new friends we made this samhain at nomenus, and perhaps friends we haven't even met yet! I am a musician and am looking for venues to play my songs but sadly have not had any luck yet. But I'm more than happy to take it to the streets! What we really need is a flat place where we can legally park and plug in our van during our stay. We are experienced sensitive guests and we're totally self sufficient in our van. We have our own kitchen and bathroom and everything. We just need somewhere flat to park and plug in where we feel welcome. Do you have a Magickal Motto?

This turned out to be a hot topic on my cyber-lodge group.

A friend and new associate over at our yahoo egroup FutureThelema brought up the notion of a magick motto. I realize that I have never had one, actually.

Do any others here use a magick motto? Would you like to share?
My friend said that one ought to realize the power of a magickal motto and
be sure what one wishes to use, because there is power in it. Do any of
your feel this is true? Is a magick motto something one could share with
other members of magick groups, cyber lodges such as this?

Any thoughts and comments would be helpful.

I remembered later, after I posted this in another group, that I had used a past motto used as sig: Cuetlachtonameyoa ~Wolf that Shimmers~ "I am the flame that burns in every heart of man, and in the core of every star."

Why are nearly all depictions of faeries female? Is society so focused on fear of gay things that the association makes it so? I've found much exquisite art, with hardly a male to be found. And when they are, they're just too sugary to stand. "

" The term "Faerie" is mostly associated with gay males like the "Radical Faeries". I don't know why this is but I think it is another example of how the church & others who oppress us use the term as a demonstrative term to eradicate the true belief in Faeries. "

Little Sunshine dream

Little Sunshine

I am in my hometown of Evansville, Indiana, on the North side where I grew up. It was a really sunny day in my dream. My friend Jimmy and I are on the mall and hanging out, joking around and talking. Jimmy is dressed like a hippie and on his left collar he has a peace sign button and the numbers 666 stenciled onto his blue jean jacket collar.

A cop comes up and looks at Jimmy, giving him that look of trouble. He says to Jimmy that he has to get off of this mall immediately or he will run him in. I grab Jimmy by the shoulders and say to the cop, “What do you mean? This guy is the nicest guy on the Mall. He is the Mall.” The cop grabs his handcuffs…

Suddenly Jimmy and I are boarding the bus. I look out the front of the bus and wonder where the cop and the cop car disappeared to. The bus takes us up to the rich side of town, and we get out and see a really nice building. We go inside and there is a wake going on, and some woman is ready Caddish over a deceased loved one. Jimmy and I look at each other and decide we’d better back out of here, and Jimmy gets out first, I notice there is a line of people, like waiting at a food stamp, unemployment, or doctor’s office. There are children scattered on the path I have to traverse. I am holding a soda and this little kid reaches up to try to pull it out of my hands. I almost fall over and touch the kid, he wiggles furiously. I say to him, “Both, you sure are ticklish!”

Jimmy and I are now outside and we decide to cut through the woods, by the creek, behind these houses. At first we look, and are puzzled how we are going to get passed all these rich, well to do homes to get to the woods. EOD

Comments: Well Jimmy is Kenny’s brother, who called a couple of weeks ago from my hometown of Evansville, Indiana. I hadn’t spoken to Jimmy since 1979, six years after graduating from F. J. Reitz High School. Very vivid, conscious dream. The cop scene could relate to when I was almost arrested on the Denver Mall in November, because I sat up my tarot table across from the Federal Reserve. But I talked nice to the cop and he didn’t write a ticket or run me in, I just had to pack up and leave. He muttered something about what I was doing being witch-craft, synchronistically something Eric was saying all the time, whenever I did my rituals in the back room. I think that is the whole part of the respect thing from my other dream. Oh, yes, the sunshine, it is amazingly sunny today, with all that snow from yesterday, blindingly beautiful!
